Gymdesk review (2026): pricing, pros and cons

Nuestro veredicto

Gymdesk is what gym management software looks like when a vendor optimizes for clarity: public pricing from $75 to $200 per month, tiers by active member count, month-to-month with no contracts, a 30-day trial and an interface a new front-desk hire understands in an afternoon. For independent gyms, dojos and studios that mainly need memberships, billing, attendance and automations, it is the easiest recommendation in the category. The limits are equally clear: no native branded member app, no real coaching layer for programming or messaging, and thin enterprise depth. Buy it for management done simply; look elsewhere if the member-facing app is the product.

Ideal para

Independent gyms, martial arts schools and studios that want clean management - memberships, billing, attendance, automations - at a transparent monthly price.

No recomendado para

Gyms that want a native branded member app, in-app coaching and messaging, or enterprise multi-location tooling.

Ventajas y desventajas

Ventajas

  • Public pricing from $75 to $200 per month by active member count, month-to-month with no contracts.
  • One of the cleanest, fastest interfaces in gym software; setup takes hours, not weeks.
  • A 30-day free trial, longer than most rivals offer.
  • Strong fit for martial arts schools and dojos as well as regular gyms.
  • Built-in automations for reminders, follow-ups and billing without extra modules.

Desventajas

  • No native branded member app; the member experience is web-based.
  • Light on coaching: no workout builder, no in-app messaging, no nutrition tools.
  • Fewer enterprise features; large multi-location chains will outgrow it.
  • Tiers are capped by active member count, so a growing gym steps up plans.

What Gymdesk is

Gymdesk came out of Austin, Texas around 2016, originally with deep martial arts roots, and has grown into general gym and studio management while keeping the dojo audience close. The pitch is simplicity: memberships, recurring billing, attendance, scheduling, automations and reporting in one clean web application, priced publicly and sold month-to-month. It is deliberately not an all-in-one coaching platform. There is no workout builder, no meal planning, no in-app messaging layer; Gymdesk manages the business of the gym and leaves the training itself to the coaches. That restraint is exactly why it is so easy to run - and it defines who should buy it.

Where Gymdesk wins

Transparency first. Gymdesk publishes its prices - Micro at $75 per month for up to 50 active members, Small at $100 for up to 100, Medium at $150 for up to 200 and Large at $200 for up to 400 - all month-to-month with no contract, plus a 30-day free trial. You can budget the software from its website in two minutes, which is still rare in this category. Then the product itself. The interface is arguably the cleanest in gym software: setup takes an afternoon, front-desk tasks take seconds, and the built-in automations quietly handle payment reminders, follow-ups and expirations without a separate marketing module. Martial arts schools get genuinely strong treatment too, which makes Gymdesk a frequent Zen Planner replacement for dojos that want the same jobs done with a decade-newer feel.

Where it stays light

Gymdesk manages members; it does not coach them. There is no workout builder or exercise library, no nutrition tools, no progress photos and no in-app messaging, so a gym whose product includes programming, hybrid coaching or member communication inside an app will need a second platform or a different one entirely. The member experience is also web-based rather than a native branded app, and while payments, automations and a partial API cover the standard needs of an independent gym, enterprise buyers will find the multi-location and integration depth thin. None of this is hidden - Gymdesk is honest about being simple - but it draws a hard line around who it is for.

Pricing reality

The published tiers are the real price: $75, $100, $150 and $200 per month at 50, 100, 200 and 400 active members respectively, month-to-month, no contract, no setup fee negotiation theatre. For a 100-member gym, that undercuts most quote-based rivals while removing the anxiety of a sales call. Two things to note. First, tiers cap active members, so a growing gym steps up plans - predictable, but worth projecting against your two-year target. Second, because the coaching layer is absent, gyms that need programming or a member app should price Gymdesk plus a second tool against a bundled platform before deciding. Who should look elsewhere

Gyms that want the member-facing side to be the product should look at platforms that bundle it. Gyms that want a branded member app without per-member fees tend to shortlist Trainera, which pairs membership packages and QR or turnstile check-in with trainer and staff accounts, AI-drafted workout and meal plans that trainers approve, and a white-label option that publishes the gym's own iOS and Android app - with public per-country prices and more than 20 languages. Class-first CrossFit and functional fitness boxes will get more from Wodify, whose whiteboard performance tracking is the retention engine Gymdesk does not try to build. And multi-location operations or studios that want marketplace reach and enterprise tooling usually end up evaluating Mindbody, accepting its weight and cost in exchange for that scale.
